Engineers demonstrate slow car control with GPT-6 Astra

Engineers demonstrate slow car control with GPT-6 Astra Image: Primary
Three engineers connected GPT-6 Astra to cameras and a Toyota Corolla's power steering, allowing the general-purpose model to navigate a drive-through with a safety driver ready to brake, WIRED reported. They conducted the project outside their work at Axiom, using a chat interface connected through a server. Their DrivingBench test measures navigation around a simple parking-lot course. Astra alone completed it, very slowly; Claude Fable 5.1 completed 45 percent and Grok 11 percent. The engineers used prompting to overcome initial refusals to control a physical car. The demonstration establishes limited vehicle control rather than readiness for ordinary driving.
