Granola launches Apple Watch app for AI meeting notes

AI note-taking startup Granola launched an Apple Watch app on Monday that allows users to record and transcribe meetings without using their smartphones, the company announced. The new app is designed primarily for in-person conversations and situations such as walking one-on-one meetings where users may not want to keep their phones in hand. Users can set Granola as a watch face and start transcription at any time. The app can also display reminders about upcoming meetings and works alongside Granola's iOS application, which launched last year. Chris Pedregal, co-founder of Granola, told TechCrunch that the Apple Watch app is intended to make it easier to capture in-person meetings without requiring users to pull out their phones. The company said internal testing with employees who owned Apple Watches showed that a significant portion of their mobile usage shifted from the iPhone app to the wearable when the watch-based experience was available. Granola said it decided to develop an Apple Watch application rather than integrate with another dedicated hardware product at this stage. The expansion comes after Granola became a unicorn earlier this year after raising $125 million in a Series C funding round led by Index Ventures, according to TechCrunch. The company is positioning the wearable app as a more convenient way for users to capture conversations while keeping their phones out of sight.
