New Zealand carriers 2degrees and One NZ proposed a joint venture that would own, manage and operate their radio access networks, including antennas and base stations. The carriers would remain independent operators and retain spectrum rights, core networks, fiber backhaul and satellite operations. They say the proposed RANCo would support more efficient investment, added coverage and capacity, faster 5G and future-technology deployment, and resilience. Completion is expected in the first half of next year, subject to conditions and regulatory approvals.
