Waymo opens up robotaxi service in Dallas to everyone
Image: Primary Waymo opened its robotaxi service in Dallas to everyone on Tuesday, dropping a waitlist that had limited access since February. The Alphabet-owned company said anyone can now download the app and immediately hail a ride.
Riders cannot yet hail trips to Dallas Love Field Airport. The company said it continues to test vehicles at the airport and expects to serve riders there soon. Waymo said about 150,000 riders used the app during the waitlist period.
The company has had a presence in Dallas since last year when it began testing on public streets. It partners with Avis Budget Group to manage its fleet of all-electric autonomous Jaguar I-Pace vehicles. Avis handles depot operations including charging and maintenance.
Waymo paused service in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and Atlanta in May due to problems with heavy rain and flooded roads. Service has resumed but the company said it may adjust or temporarily pause operations based on severe weather and flood warnings. A Waymo spokesperson said riders can check service status via the app.
