Zipline announced a $1.5bn funding round at a $21.5bn valuation on Thursday, alongside a new multi-year agreement for Walmart to add 300 US drone delivery sites. The companies currently operate 21 sites in Texas and Arkansas, Bloomberg reported. Paradigm, WCM Investment Management and Layer Global led the financing. Zipline said it would expand US manufacturing and hire staff to build a nationwide delivery network. Its factory near San Francisco International Airport can produce up to 20,000 aircraft a year, according to Bloomberg. Regulatory approvals and community concerns over noise and safety remain hurdles to wider deployment, Reuters reported.
