Amazon Ads opens ChatGPT inventory to US advertisers in OpenAI pilot
Image: Primary Amazon Ads said it will let advertisers buy ads inside ChatGPT through its own platform, announcing the OpenAI partnership in a blog post on 10 September.
Select US advertisers are already testing the arrangement in a pilot. Brands buy placements through Amazon DSP, Amazon's demand-side platform, and can pay per click or per thousand impressions; Amazon sets up and manages campaigns while OpenAI's ad system decides which ads are delivered. Ads appear as text or images beneath ChatGPT answers and are labeled as sponsored.
Delta Vacations is among the first brands in the trial. OpenAI began selling sponsored placements in ChatGPT in the US in February, and said at the end of August that the ad business had reached a $1bn annualised revenue run rate.
