Anthropic tests limiting Claude Code access for new Pro subscribers

Anthropic briefly removed Claude Code from its $20-per-month Pro plan pricing pages on April 21, then reversed the changes after users raised questions on social media. Anthropic Head of Growth Amol Avasare said on Twitter that the company was "running a small test on ~2% of new prosumer signups." He said existing Pro and Max subscribers were not affected. When asked why support documents were changed to remove Pro plan references, Avasare did not respond. The Claude Code support page previously stated users could access the tool "with your Pro or Max plan." During the test, it read "with your Max plan" only. Pricing pages on both mobile and desktop also reflected the removal. Some Pro users reported they could still access Claude Code through the web app and command-line interface during the test period. It remains unclear whether the change was intended only for new subscribers or if broader access restrictions are planned. Avasare indicated that further subscription changes may be coming. He said Anthropic "made small adjustments along the way" but that "usage has changed a lot and our current plans weren't built for this." He noted the Max plan was designed for heavy chat usage before Claude Code and Claude Cowork existed. The test follows a recent change, reported
