Claude's share links made private chats searchable on Google, and Anthropic says it's intended

Claude's share links made private chats searchable on Google, and Anthropic says it's intended Image: Primary
Anthropic said its Claude share links are designed to make conversations publicly accessible and may be indexed by search engines. The statement followed a Futurism report that Google had indexed a range of Claude content, including chat logs, shared documents and Artifacts, making them discoverable on the public internet. The report said Reddit users first noticed the exposure over the weekend and that chats remained searchable. Google surfaced sensitive material such as what appeared to be a patient medical report, clinical trial results with patient names, lists containing children's names and phone numbers, internal company documents and employee reviews with personal information. Anthropic said in a statement that when someone shares a conversation they are making that content publicly accessible and like other public web content it may be archived by third-party services. The company's sharing feature warns that a link is public and anyone with the link can view, but the warning reportedly does not clearly say search engines may also index the shared page. Futurism said the situation appears to fit a broader pattern, noting Anthropic dealt with a similar issue before and that other major AI companies including OpenAI and xAI have faced scrutiny after user conversations became discoverable online.
