SpaceX selects Qualcomm for planned US terrestrial mobile network

SpaceX selects Qualcomm for planned US terrestrial mobile network Image: Primary
SpaceX selected Qualcomm to supply technology for the ground-based 5G network behind its planned Starlink Mobile service, Qualcomm announced. The multi-year agreement covers plans for tens of thousands of US sites, with a nationwide rollout expected to begin in 2027. The sites will use Qualcomm's Dragonwing platforms, including chips for radio units and signal processing. Their radios will use 64 transmit and 64 receive antenna paths to direct signals toward multiple phones simultaneously. SpaceX is developing its own base station design and aims to combine terrestrial towers with its satellites in one network. The agreement concerns the planned 5G rollout; the companies' stated 6G ambitions are longer term.
