Serbian InsurTech startup Ominimo has secured the first part of an ongoing Series B round backed by the investment arm of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, valuing the Novi Sad-headquartered company at about €1.48 billion ($1.60 billion), The Recursive reported. The deal makes Ominimo Serbia's first tech unicorn, according to The Recursive. The company is not disclosing the Series B amount yet because additional investors are still expected to join. EU-Startups reported the round at a €1.4 billion ($1.6 billion) valuation and said Ominimo plans to use the capital to pursue an insurance licence, enter new European markets, prepare a U.S. launch, build products, invest in technology and AI, and hire engineers and data scientists. Founded in 2024 by Dušan Komar, Laslo Horvath, and Dennis Weinbender, Ominimo focuses on algorithm-driven motor insurance underwriting. The Recursive said the company moved from a Series A valuation of about €212.75 million ($230 million) in May 2025, led by Zurich Insurance Group, to the current $1.6 billion figure over roughly 15 months. EU-Startups said the Series A closed in 2025 at a €200 million valuation about 12 months after launch, with Zurich joining as a strategic distribution partner and minority shareholder. The Recursive reported that Ominimo took about 7% market share in Hungary and sold more than 300,000 policies in its first 12 months there, and that in June 2026 it set a company record by selling more than $1 million of policies in 24 hours, mostly from expansion markets in the Netherlands and Poland. Based on that week's performance, annualized gross written premium exceeded $300 million, the outlet said, with a combined ratio between 92% and 100%. With EBRD backing, Ominimo plans to expand into six additional EU markets and enter the United States within the next 12 months, The Recursive reported.
