Waymo details custom sensor-processing chip for robotaxis
Image: Primary Waymo published details of a custom 5-nanometer ASIC that processes raw lidar, radar and camera data before a separate sensor-fusion inference engine. The company says the front-end ASICs provide more than 1,000 TOPS and form part of a redundant onboard computer. Waymo also named Nvidia, AMD, TSMC and four other suppliers; the chip adds to, rather than replaces, merchant components.
