A Georgia resident has brought a proposed class action against Southern Co. over a cyberattack that exposed information linked to 400,000 customer accounts, Yahoo reported. Georgia Power said 300,000 affected accounts belonged to its customers. The complaint alleges Southern failed to adequately protect customer information through encryption, account security and threat detection. It seeks damages, attorneys' fees and court costs, along with a jury trial on all claims. A Southern spokesman declined to comment while litigation is pending.
