Microsoft has confirmed that some Excel users may find copy and paste silently fails after installing September's KB5002914 security update. The company says the issue also affects autofill and formula dragging in Excel 2016, 2019, 2021 and 2024. In the documented failure, a user attempts to paste content but the source remains selected and the destination is unchanged. Microsoft is researching the problem; affected users have reported that removing the update restores copy-and-paste functionality.
