NVIDIA joins NSF State and Regional AI Infrastructure Hubs program

NVIDIA said it is participating in the U.S. National Science Foundation State and Regional Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Hubs program, which is launching to expand access to advanced computing, data, software, and expertise for AI-enabled research and education. The company said the program will support state and multistate groups of colleges and universities working together, in partnership with private industry, philanthropic organizations, and state and local governments. Regional hubs are meant to help institutions share AI computing resources, accelerate scientific discovery, and prepare students for AI-related work, using on-premises infrastructure, cloud computing, or both. NVIDIA compared the model to its public-private partnership with cofounder Chris Malachowsky and the University of Florida that began in 2020. It said UF has grown to more than 300 AI-focused faculty across 16 colleges and that UF faculty and units have received more than $511 million in AI research awards since 2017. NVIDIA also said it has been a leading contributor to the NSF-led National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource pilot on which the hubs announcement is built. Beyond hardware access, NVIDIA said hubs should pair infrastructure with learning pathways such as degree programs, certificates, and stackable credentials, and that it can provide training resources, educator enablement, applied learning content, technical guidance, partner platforms, and tools.
