Censys identified more than 800 distinct deployments of Artex accessible from the internet without a login password, TechCrunch reports. The autonomous penetration testing software probes systems for weaknesses, and exposed installations could let outsiders launch attacks or access attack tools. Censys researcher Silas Cutler said many installations serve authorized testers and are not malicious. Artex does not require internet exposure to operate. Although Artex has announced a move to closed-source releases for paying customers, dozens of copies of its code remain available on code-sharing sites.
