OpenAI says Georgia power agreement includes 1,000 megawatts of flexible demand

Power lines Image: Primary
OpenAI says its 3.2-gigawatt agreement with Georgia Power includes 1,000 megawatts of flexible demand response for its planned Effingham County campus. The company is testing its Grid Protectors Program there to reduce data center electricity consumption when local demand rises. The approach would let utilities call on campus flexibility during periods such as heat waves or cold snaps. It could also allow data centers to connect sooner rather than wait for additional power supplies. OpenAI says arrangements will differ by location, with utilities and the company agreeing how much demand can fall, how quickly and for how long.
