Lydian has raised $43 million in Series A financing to launch PIVOT, a modular production platform meant to cut the cost of synthetic aviation fuel, Pulse 2.0 reported. Breakthrough Energy Ventures led the round, with AP Ventures and Builders Vision participating alongside existing investors including Congruent Ventures, Galvanize, Grok Ventures, Overture, Union Square Ventures, and Voyager Ventures. Pulse 2.0 said the investment is the first announced deployment from the oneworld BEV Fund, a strategic vehicle supported by airlines and other aviation industry members. Lydian said PIVOT can reduce plant capital costs by more than 50% versus competing synthetic fuel technologies while cutting lifecycle emissions by as much as 95%. The factory-built modules combine reactors, catalysts, software, and process design and are intended to shorten project timelines by as much as two years while flexing around intermittent renewable power. Lydian is running a tonne-scale pilot in Boston, with a commercial demonstration targeted to begin operating in 2028 and a first full-scale commercial project targeted for 2030. PIVOT produces ASTM-approved sustainable aviation fuel usable in existing aircraft and fueling infrastructure.
