Anthropic says Claude leads 26% of its AI R&D tasks
Image: Primary Anthropic said Claude led work under human supervision on 26% of its AI research and development tasks in August 2026, up from less than 1% in February. The company also reported that AI collaborated with people on more than 90% of those tasks.
About 30,000 AI agents run simultaneously on Anthropic's most-used internal platform, performing research and engineering work. The company analyzed more than 1 billion agent decisions in August; its monitoring system blocked 0.002%, while about 50 high-priority cases each week were escalated to people. Anthropic said no research area operates fully autonomously.
