DeepSeek Builds Own AI Chips To Bypass Export Caps
Image: Primary Chinese startup DeepSeek is developing its own AI chip, according to three people familiar with the matter, Reuters reported on July 7, 2026. The push could reduce its reliance on Nvidia and Huawei chips, which it has depended on to train and run its globally popular models. DeepSeek has increased hiring of chip-design engineers in recent months, the sources said. The expansion into chip development would mark major strategic shift for China's AI champion.
