Cloudflare OS: an open platform for agents, apps, and work

Cloudflare announced Tuesday it is open sourcing a new version of Cloudflare OS, a platform that gives every employee an agent workspace grounded in company context and connected to internal systems. The company said the platform combines an agent workspace with an isolated code runtime, a security framework for governed data access, and a platform for personal, modifiable apps that can be built, shared, and changed. Cloudflare said it gave every employee access to a first version in May and thousands of people across every function use it daily to create documents, automate tasks, and build small apps. The new version is based on lessons learned from that internal deployment, according to a blog post by Chief Information Officer Sam Rhea. The company said the first version centered on individuals working with agents through private workspaces but faced challenges with static apps, token consumption, and collaboration security. Cloudflare said it rebuilt the platform so security is part of the foundation, not something every app builder must implement. The platform uses Gatekeepers to give agents governed access to systems of record and supports existing Model Context Protocol servers via MCP Server Portals. Workspaces come loaded with curated context and skills so people no longer have to explain the same processes to a model every time they start a task. Agents can research topics using company resources, create live documents connected to data sources, build collaborative apps with custom interfaces, and run deterministic workflows on demand or on a schedule.
