Rubin releases deep COSMOS-field image and research catalog
Image: Primary The Vera C. Rubin Observatory released a deep image and scientific-research catalog of the COSMOS field as part of the first phase of its Data Preview 2. The release combines observations made from April 2025 through January 2026 during science validation.
The stacked image uses hundreds of observations from the 3.2-gigapixel LSST Camera and contains more than half a million galaxies and more than 50,000 stars. Rubin says repeated visits will help scientists test its tools and data products before the long-term survey.
