Google says it launched a prototype satellite carrying four TPUs, its machine-learning processors, with Planet on SpaceX's Transporter-18 mission. The launch begins Project Suncatcher, research into whether scalable machine-learning infrastructure could operate in space. Over the coming weeks, Google will collect data on how the processors withstand physical stress, radiation and thermal extremes, then use the findings to refine future designs.
