CrowdStrike reports 39% rise in legal entities named on extortion sites

Ransomware and extortion groups named 455 legal entities on their leak sites from September 2025 to August 2026, up 39% from 327 a year earlier, CrowdStrike said in a report published Wednesday. The report describes callers impersonating IT staff to persuade attorneys or assistants to open remote support sessions. In one 2025 intrusion, attackers tried to take data four minutes after gaining access. CrowdStrike also says CHATTY SPIDER hired a man to enter a US law firm in November 2025 and install remote access tools. The FBI has separately warned about physical intrusions, but TNW has not independently verified the report's other cases.
