Thomson Reuters launches proprietary Thomson language model
Image: Primary Thomson Reuters launched Thomson, its first proprietary large language model, on August 24 after investing $40 million across training talent and compute. The company built the model from an open-source foundation and specialized it with content and expertise from Westlaw, Practical Law, Checkpoint and Reuters. Thomson will first power Tabular Analysis in CoCounsel Legal; a smaller open-weight version is planned for academic and non-commercial evaluation, while the company's performance claims still require broader independent validation.
