Shanghai genetics lab uses AI-guided robots to run DNA experiments

A genetics laboratory in Shanghai has handed almost all operational control to robots guided by artificial-intelligence agents, Nature reports. The system, called AutoDNA, takes a simple human prompt and designs and executes experiments, including tasks involving DNA synthesis and sequencing. Its robotic arms can operate more than 20 types of instrument and complete thousands of operations in a single project. While experiments run, people are needed only to replenish reagents and service the hardware.
