Dutch tax administration cancels Microsoft 365 public-cloud rollout

Dutch tax authorities cancel Microsoft 365 cloud rollout – and turn toward open source Image: Primary
The Netherlands' Tax and Customs Administration has canceled its Microsoft 365 public-cloud rollout in favor of on-premises email and calendar services, followed by European open-source storage and collaboration tools, ZDNET reported. About 5,000 employees had migrated before the government paused the plan in July. An ICT assessment criticized the selected deployment's security, data control, vendor lock-in and exit strategy. State Secretary for Finance Eelco Eerenberg outlined on-premises mail and calendar services for 2027, with storage and collaboration changes later in 2027 and 2028. Existing Microsoft software, including Outlook, will remain in use; no specific open-source replacement has been selected.
