Meta AI now runs with Llama 3

Meta AI now runs with Llama 3 Image: Primary
Meta Platforms said Thursday it is replacing the large language model behind its Meta AI chatbot with Llama 3. The English version of the new model launched in 14 countries including the United States, Canada, Australia and several nations in Africa and Asia. The company said the assistant is now integrated across its applications such as search and is also available on the meta.ai website. Meta described the updated assistant as the most intelligent AI assistant available for free. Llama 3 is open source and was trained on more data than its predecessor. The largest version uses 70 billion parameters and includes data up to December 2023 while a smaller version uses eight billion parameters with data up to March 2023. The assistant uses a scaled-down version of the large model and can link to a public search engine in responses with references that update daily. Real-time image generation is currently limited to users in the United States with a Facebook account. The feature creates images while the user types and can animate uploaded still images. When asked to translate English into German the assistant initially provided a translation then deleted it and said it does not understand German yet.
