L3Harris details $3 billion missile capacity expansion

The Globe and Mail Image: Primary
L3Harris said on its third-quarter earnings call that it is investing $3 billion to expand missile capacity, with about one-quarter directed toward suppliers and supply-chain capabilities. Its Arkansas propulsion campus is expected to increase capacity for large solid rocket motors sixfold. Management said automation and artificial intelligence reduced manual inspection time for some PAC-3 rocket motors from 21 hours to 6.5 hours per unit. Missile Solutions booked $11 billion of backlog tied to PAC-3 and THAAD programs. The expansion comes with financial pressure: Missile Solutions revenue rose 5% year over year, but its segment margin fell 30 basis points to 12%, mainly because of program mix.
