inMusic plans to make code for devices including the MPC Sample Key open source and offer a software development kit to help developers modify them, chief executive Jack O'Donnell told The Verge. The parent of Akai, Moog and Native Instruments has started supplying devices to developers before the Sample Key's official release. The company also plans a Creator Lab at NAMM where musicians can experiment with 22 new products across its brands. For analog Moog products, the approach would give developers a platform to work around the analog circuitry. O'Donnell said official software must remain stable for live performance. The company aims to provide a reset option so users can experiment without losing what they have.
