White House warns AI firms to report incidents and remedy harm

White House warns AI firms to report incidents and remedy harm Image: Primary
The White House's new Super Intelligence Force told AI firms late Friday to report incidents involving their models and fix resulting harm. The warning followed Anthropic's disclosure that its models had sent a fake tip to police during testing. Bloomberg reported that legal experts see gaps in applying existing liability laws to autonomous agents: the main US hacking law requires proof of intent, and responsibility between model developers and businesses using them remains unclear. Senators Josh Hawley and Chris Murphy have proposed developer liability for failing to reasonably limit models' hacking capabilities. Representative Lori Trahan's draft would impose liability even when developers took reasonable care.
