Louisiana adds community requirements to data center sales tax exemption

Louisiana's economic development agency introduced criteria Thursday that data center developers must meet to receive an equipment sales tax exemption, NOLA.com reported. Companies must submit a detailed attestation showing university partnerships, sustainable local revenue and long-term commitments to community schools and nonprofits. Developers had claimed $39 million in exemptions as of mid-September. The new requirements follow a June executive order requiring developers to pay for their own power to qualify for the tax break. How the state will determine compliance with the new criteria remains unclear; an agency spokesperson declined to answer questions Thursday.
