Security researchers report rentable proxy access through White House network

Security firm Layer3 Intel says 28 residential proxy services allowed customers' traffic to exit through the internet address network reserved for the Executive Office of the President. KrebsOnSecurity reported that Layer3 observed 236 exits through the White House network between October 5 and November 3, using six internet addresses on 26 of the 30 days. Residential proxies let customers route traffic through another device's internet address, making requests appear to originate there. Synthient linked activity on the network to multiple Windows 11 installations of Infatica, a service often bundled into free applications. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
