Researchers recover deleted local AI context from Android memory

This tool can recover deleted AI chats from your phone – how it works Image: Primary
Georgia Tech researchers used an experimental tool called ORISA to recover enough deleted AI conversation information from Android memory to restart a session with 26 of 100 fictional facts, ZDNET reported. The original assistant session could access 14 because other facts had fallen outside its active memory. The experiment used a fake note-keeping assistant built with ChatterUI. ORISA reconstructs token sequences and session context from remnants in process memory, providing a potential forensic technique for investigating local AI use. Recovery becomes harder as newer activity overwrites the phone's memory.
