Claude Code now lets sessions talk to each other on macOS

Anthropic announced Thursday that users running the latest version of Claude Code on macOS and Linux can now have their sessions message each other to share findings, ask questions and coordinate work. The feature arrived with Claude Code v2.1.224 and lets different sessions send updates and relevant information, which can be useful when multiple sessions are working on different parts of the same project. According to Anthropic documentation, cross-session messaging allows Claude to deliver a message from one session to another, warning a session when a change breaks what another is building on or sending an answer when one session settles a question another is blocked on. The company said the best use cases include handing over a finding, coordinating parallel worktrees, getting status from long-running work and replying across machines. Anthropic added that users do not need to compose the message itself because the prompt can include only the content they want to get across and Claude will write the actual message. The company noted that cross-session messaging does not work for approving permission requests or changing configurations, and commands such as /compact arrive as plain text rather than an actual command. If acting on the message requires a permission, the receiving session will still prompt the user for approval.
