Amex adds purchase-intent checks to AI agent payment toolkit

Amex adds purchase-intent checks to AI agent payment toolkit Image: Primary
American Express has introduced a framework that captures and authenticates customer purchase instructions before an AI agent completes a transaction. The company told TechCrunch that its Intent Intelligence Framework is now part of the ACE Developer Toolkit. A Create Intent API records constraints such as merchant, budget and product preferences. After the customer authenticates and approves them, an identifier and token carry those constraints into the payment process. The token obtains a digital payment credential for checkout instead of exposing the customer's card number. Amex says these records can support fraud prevention and dispute resolution. It has not yet seen an increase in disputes from agentic commerce.
