California company Satyress has presented Threehalves, a roughly two-meter teleoperated robot that combines a humanoid upper body with a four-legged base for work in environments considered too dangerous for people. The concept is aimed at emergency and industrial settings including wildfires, mudslides and collapsed structures. An operator controls the machine remotely by joystick, while modular connections are designed to accept task-specific tools such as a drill or chainsaw. The company says the quadruped base is intended to provide stability on rough terrain. Threehalves remains a proof of concept rather than a commercial deployment. Satyress has not announced a price, release date or evidence of regulatory approval, and the available material does not establish that the machine has completed field trials. Its unusual centaur body plan nevertheless shows how robotics developers are exploring forms between humanoids and conventional quadrupeds for hazardous physical work.
