Introducing GPT-Live
OpenAI announced July 8 the launch of GPT-Live, a new generation of voice models designed to make talking with AI feel more like a real conversation. The company said GPT-Live is built on a full-duplex architecture that allows it to listen and speak at the same time. During conversations, the model can show it is paying attention with phrases like "mhmm" or "yeah," engage in quick back-and-forth, or stay quiet when a user needs a moment to think. OpenAI said GPT-Live is also its smartest voice model yet. For questions that require web search, deeper reasoning, or more complex work, it delegates to the latest frontier model behind the scenes and brings the result back into the conversation when ready. At launch, GPT-Live will use GPT-5.5 in the background. The company said it will continuously update the model used
