Polars 2.0 enables disk spilling and makes streaming the default

Polars 2.0 enables disk spilling and makes streaming the default Image: Primary
Polars released version 2.0 Tuesday, enabling supported operations to spill data to disk when memory fills and making its streaming engine the default for collecting query results. The project says these changes improve resilience for workloads that use substantial memory. Disk spilling starts at approximately 80% of RAM, with a default disk budget of 64GB. It currently supports sorting, window functions and many expressions; support for joins and grouping remains on the roadmap. The release also expands SQL support and query optimization. The default streaming engine does not guarantee row order for some operations, including joins and grouping. Users who require that order must explicitly enable it.
