Google Docs and Drive begin rolling out native Markdown editing

Google Docs and Drive begin rolling out native Markdown editing Image: Primary
Google is rolling out native support for Markdown files in Docs and Drive, allowing users to edit and collaborate without converting the files to another format. Markdown uses text syntax to define document formatting; Docs now renders that formatting while retaining real-time editing and comments. Drive also displays formatted Markdown documents with clickable links and structured tables. Google says the change supports collaboration between people and AI agents. The rollout begins today, may take up to 15 days to reach everyone, and is enabled by default even on accounts managed by administrators.
