Cloudflare says AI reviewers flagged ~250,000 standards violations and blocked 16,000 merges

Cloudflare said that over the past four months an AI code reviewer flagged nearly a quarter of a million deviations from company engineering standards and blocked 16,000 merges. A separate spec reviewer agent evaluated close to 600 technical designs against the same standards before implementation, according to a Cloudflare blog post. Both systems draw from the Cloudflare Codex, a governed set of engineering standards built for people and agents. Cloudflare said prior guidance was scattered across documentation, repository files, chat threads, and individual knowledge, which became harder to keep consistent as the company grew. Codex domains cover areas such as frontend and control plane architecture, security and reliability, and languages including TypeScript and Rust, each with an owner. Standards use an RFC format with SHOULD and MUST requirements under RFC 2119. Cloudflare said the same guidance can inform code review, technical design review, incident report review, and related workflows.
