AI conferences cap paper submissions with tighter limits for newcomers

Major AI conferences are imposing per-author submission caps as paper volumes rise, Nature reported. ICLR 2027 has announced a limit of 20 submissions per author. Authors without a prior acceptance at a major AI conference are limited to one unless they have a qualifying co-author. The 2027 Artificial Intelligence and Statistics conference has introduced limits of 12 submissions per author and 3 for authors without a qualifying acceptance. The Association for Computational Linguistics has set a cap of 20 submissions per person and 5 first-author papers per review cycle. ICLR expects submissions to exceed 62,000. Its rules allow only authors with a prior major-conference acceptance to review papers, while researchers have criticized the stricter limits on newcomers.
