D.C. proposal would cap robotaxi operators at 200 vehicles each

D.C. proposal would cap robotaxi operators at 200 vehicles each Image: Primary
Proposed Washington, D.C., legislation would limit each commercial robotaxi operator to 200 vehicles and require service across all eight wards, WIBC reported. Councilmember Charles Allen's bill would place permits under the D.C. Department of Transportation and impose a per-mile fee supporting Metro and workforce development. The proposal includes a fund for workers displaced by autonomous vehicles. Waymo is seeking to operate in the District after more than two years of testing with safety drivers and mapping streets. The legislation has not passed, and the council could change it before voting.
