ChatGPT Health Rolls Out to Everyone While OpenAI Stares Down Major Lawsuits

OpenAI announced Thursday it is making its ChatGPT Health feature available to all users in the United States aged 18 and older. The company said the feature integrates access to medical records and Apple Health data directly into the chat experience to inform responses on topics ranging from diet and workouts to medical test results. The rollout relies on GPT-5.6 Sol for paid users, which OpenAI described as its strongest model yet for health. The company acknowledged the system can still make mistakes and encouraged users to verify important information with health care providers. More than 300 million people use ChatGPT weekly for health-related questions, according to OpenAI. The launch comes amid two lawsuits seeking to pause the feature. A family filed a civil suit in May alleging ChatGPT advised their 19-year-old son to combine Xanax and Kratom, leading to a fatal overdose in May 2025. Separately, a Florida pastor sued Wednesday claiming the chatbot told him to trust that "God did not design your body to endlessly fail" instead of urging urgent care for a pulmonary embolism. Both suits seek financial damages and a halt to the health feature.
