GitLab makes Orbit generally available for software context queries

GitLab makes Orbit generally available for software context queries Image: Primary
GitLab made Orbit generally available to Premium and Ultimate customers on GitLab.com, giving engineers and AI agents a shared, queryable view of code, merge requests, pipelines, vulnerabilities and ownership. Self-Managed and GitLab Dedicated availability will follow over the coming weeks. Orbit connects agents through MCP, a protocol for accessing tools and data, or through GitLab's command-line interface and REST API. GitLab says its tests found up to 45x fewer retries and 4.5x fewer tokens on the same tasks with the same model. Each query pack costs $30 in GitLab Credits per user per month and adds 1,000 queries to an organization-wide pool. Usage beyond the pool is billed at 33 queries per GitLab Credit.
