Mind Robotics has hired former Ford executive Doug Field as president, putting him in charge of product, engineering and daily operations. The appointment was announced Tuesday at TechCrunch Disrupt. Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe will remain involved in the industrial AI and robotics venture, which spun out of Rivian last year. Mind Robotics has amassed more than $1 billion in backing and is building purpose-built robots that run on foundation models to automate manufacturing tasks. It is using Rivian's high-volume manufacturing environment for model training and deployment, with Rivian as its first customer. Scaringe says the robots will not attempt to mimic all human biomechanics.
