US confirms an orbital space weapon deployment

The United States has confirmed that it deployed a weapon in Earth's orbit, according to comments by Air Force Secretary Troy Meink reported by the BBC. Meink said the on-orbit weapon was needed to safeguard U.S. forces against hostile action, but did not describe its capability or say when it was deployed.
