FuriosaAI raises $620m to expand inference chip production

FuriosaAI announced a $620m Series D round valuing the Seoul-based AI chipmaker at about $2.9bn. South Korea's National Growth Fund invested $280m, the largest contribution. The company will use the funding to produce more RNGD chips, improve its software and develop a third-generation chip. RNGD runs trained AI models rather than training them. FuriosaAI says it has secured memory and factory capacity for more than 40,000 chips in 2027. Samsung SDS launched a cloud service using RNGD in July. FuriosaAI's claims that RNGD matches Nvidia's RTX PRO 6000 throughput and serves twice as many users per kilowatt have not been tested by The Next Web.
