Nvidia driver adds cloud-precompiled shaders for supported PC games

Nvidia is rolling out driver version 621.01 with support for Microsoft's Advanced Shader Delivery, which moves shader compilation to the cloud to shorten game launches. Nvidia says the system also eliminates mid-game compilation that causes CPU spikes and stuttering. Developers capture shaders into a database so Microsoft's cloud can precompile them for different hardware and driver combinations. Gears of War: E-Day and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 support the feature through the Xbox PC app. Nvidia says Steam purchases can also benefit when that app is installed. The feature requires supported games and the Xbox PC app.
