Cloudflare says targeted DNS builds cut peak memory use by 85%

Cloudflare says targeted DNS builds cut peak memory use by 85% Image: Primary
Cloudflare says a new planner and scheduler for processing DNS changes reduced peak memory use by 85%, from 79 GiB to 12 GiB. The planner limits rebuilding to affected records and settings where it can establish that the output will match a full rebuild; the scheduler combines queued work for the same domain. The company also shortened processing waits, reducing median completion delay from about 7.7 seconds to about 3.3 seconds. That measurement ends when changes reach its Quicksilver data store and excludes subsequent distribution across Cloudflare's network.
