Coherence Neuro raises $45 million for brain cancer implant development

Coherence Neuro raises $45 million for brain cancer implant development Image: Primary
Coherence Neuro raised a $45 million seed round that includes the OpenAI Startup Fund and Founders Fund, WIRED reported. The startup plans to use the funding to launch a trial of long-term implants in patients with glioblastoma. Its device is designed to record electrical signals associated with tumors and deliver stimulation intended to halt tumor growth. Brief recording tests in three surgical patients preceded testing of recording and stimulation in an additional seven patients. CEO Ben Woodington says the investment arrangements give OpenAI no access to brain or health data.
